Hasbro recently added Autobot Gears to their Transformers Legacy toyline with an impressive new figure standing 5.5 inches tall. This highly articulated Deluxe Class Gears transforms from robot to sedan and back in 16 steps.
In robot mode, Gears sports his classic red, grey, and blue color scheme directly inspired by the original Generation 1 toy. Posability includes shoulder, elbow, wrist, hip, knee, and ankle joints for dynamic poses. Gears comes with two interchangeable face plates – one neutral and one shouting expression.
For alternate mode, Gears converts into a modern compact car blending elements of a Honda Fit and old school Volkswagen Beetle. The smooth transformation sequence results in a cleanly integrated vehicle form true to his G1 mini-car roots.
This new Legacy release features numerous callbacks to Gears’ classic 1980s design including the chest vents, helmet, protruding hood chest, and rear half of the car folding over the legs. The sculpted car details like taillights and side mirrors are crisp.
Gears comes with an battle weapon accessory that can be held in both robot and vehicle modes. The weapon hooks onto the car mode discreetly when not in use.
Overall this is a fantastic modern interpretation of the grumpy Autobot Gears that both long-time fans and new collectors will appreciate.
